steamed matcha cupcakethis is my second go at painting the starbucks logo… yes, i’d been starbucksified ~ whatever that means. i find the starbucks logo elegant and classic and had always wanted to incorporate it into my bakes.

the first time i painted these, i did not add enough matcha powder, so there was hardly any differentiation between the green and white.. this time, i bumped up the matcha powder…

Recipe adapted from Mimi Bakery House  ladybug steamed cake (further adapted from my little favourite DIY)

Ingredients (makes 10 cupcakes)

2 cold eggs
180g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
100ml fresh milk
2/3 tsp ovalette
125g castor sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
Directions
steam matcha cupcake
– Put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat with medium high speed for 6 minutes
– Take 1 tbsp plain mixture and put into a piping bag
– Take 3 tbsp plain mixture, mix with brown colouring and put into piping bag
– Colour the rest of the mixing with bright red and filled into a piping bag
– Pump the red into a paper cup about 8% full. Draw a cross with the brown mixture and do dots on both sides.Colour the upper half of the cross brown and make 2 plain dots for the eye and fill the inside with the plain mixture
– Steam with medium high heat for 12 minutes
Personal notes:

steam matcha cupcake
 – i added 3 tsp of matcha powder into the batter after removing 2 tbsp of original batter for piping design
– i bumped up vanilla essence to 1.5tsp so that batter is not too bitter (due to matcha powder)
– do cover the lid of steamer with a cloth to prevent water from dripping onto cupcake
– after 12 mins, i let the cupcakes sit in the steamer for a minute before opening the lid

i’m not very happy with the drawing… the sides seem to have slipped away… i will use a bigger cupcake liner in the future and concentrate painting in the middle (ง •̀_•́)ง
