Ingredients (makes 6 elephant buns)
Dough
135g bread flour
15g cake flour
3g instant dry yeast
80ml milk
1g salt
15g trehalose or sugar
10g butter
25g egg
Filling
6 slices round shape ham
1 slice cheese
6 pieces choco baby

面包粉 135克
蛋糕粉 15克
干酵母 3克
牛奶 80毫升
盐 1克
海藻糖或糖 15克
黄油 10克
鸡蛋液 25克
馅料
圆形火腿 6片
奶酪 1片
choco baby 巧克力豆 6颗
Directions/做法
– mix all dough ingredients (except butter) and knead till you get a soft dough. knead in butter, incorporate well. allow to proof till double in size
面团食材(除黄油)混合、和面后,加入室温黄油。搓揉至拓展状态,进行一次发酵直到面团双倍大
– after proofing, punch dough down and divide into 6 equal portions. shape into ball and rest for 15 mins
发酵后,面团排气、分割成6等分。搓成圆形,休面15分钟
– meantime, prepare filling
准备馅料
slice ham as above i.e. 2 big and 2 small portions
将火腿片切至如以上图解,既是2大、2小片
slice cheese into 6 equal portions
奶酪片切成6小片
take a big portion of ham and place a slice of cheese on top
在一片大份的火腿上,摆放一片奶酪
cover with a small piece of ham
盖上一片小份的火腿
then top it off with another big portion of ham. repeat process till you have 6 portions of filling
最后在铺上一片大份的火腿。以上步骤重复、至完成6份馅料
take a portion of dough, and roll into an oval shape
取一份面团,擀成椭圆形
place a portion of filling on top right corner
右上方摆放一份馅料
fold dough into half and seal. please seal VERY TIGHTLY otherwise the cheese will leak out
褶半、面团封口捏紧。一定要紧哈,要不奶酪溢出来就不美啦。。
using a small scissors, snip of a small triangle to form the trunk
用小剪子,在面团上剪下一份三角形。如此就形成了大象的鼻子
roll the 2 small triangles from the 2 elephants into a ball
将2只象包包剪下的三角形面团搓成一团
press the ball into a flat disc and divide into half
将其面团擀平、切成半
stick this to the main dough to form the ear
将以上面片粘到主面团上,形成耳朵
press the shaped elephant down slightly and prick a hole for the eye. then proof for 30 mins
将整形过的象包包稍微压扁、用竹签在眼睛不为刺上小孔。进行二次发酵,约30分钟
preheat oven to 180 degrees C and brush buns with the remaining egg
烤箱预热至180摄氏度。(用剩余的蛋液)餐包刷上一层蛋液
press choco baby into the eye. press in tightly. bake for 15 mins and serve
this bread browns fast, so you may like to tent the bread 7 mins after baking
将一颗choco baby 巧克力豆塞入眼睛部位(一定要塞紧哈)。送入烤箱烤15分钟即可
这餐包上色很快,所以建议烘焙7分钟后,在餐包上铺上一张锡纸

I think after having this Baby Elephant Ham & Cheese bread for breakfast, it sure to give us some energy to go by for the whole morning even if it is just baby elephant. I wonder if it is big elephant bread, how much it will energize us? Love your tutorial pictures and that cutey elephant.

Hi Victoria, what beautiful creations. How long will the dough keep in the fridge? if not, can i freeze it? Also, if I were to bake the whole thing, could i freeze it and use it within a week?
