steamed pumpkin bunsi have to admit that halloween is not one of my favourite festivals( ̄~ ̄;)… because everything is so creepy and scary…. i still prefer everything to be kawaii (Ɔ˘⌣˘)(˘⌣˘)˘⌣˘ C)

nonetheless, i’m still doing this in the spirit of the imminent festival… ok ok.. it’s because i still have some pumpkin puree sitting in the fridge *:・✧⃛(ཽ๑ඕัළඕั๑)✧⃛*:・

Recipe adapted from Table for 2

300g pumpkin puree
30g sugar
1tsp cornstarch

Bun
60g sugar
90g pumpkin puree
1 tsp instant yeast
150g pau flour
1 tsp double acting baking powder (regular works fine)

Directions

steamed pumpkin buns– mix all filling ingredients and cook until thicken. Use 2 tsp to form into little balls and place on a lined tray. Chill until time of use
– prepare bun ~ (1) combine sugar, pumpkin puree and yeast
– (2) combine pau flour, D.A.B.P. and butter. mix to form crumbs
– pour (1) into (2) and mix to form a dough
– knead dough until it is smooth and no longer sticky
– let dough proof in a warm place until double in size. Remember to cover it
– punch down dough after it has doubled. knead it for 2 minutes and divide dough into 12 pieces
– remove pumpkin filling from fridge
– with lightly floured hands, take one piece of dough and flatten it, making it thinner at the sides
– place one piece of filling, round side down onto flattened dough
– wrap and seal bun
– seam side down, make marks that resemble a pumpkin using a dinner knife
– let buns proof (covered) for 45 mins and steam on high heat for 12 mins

Personal notes:

steamed pumpkin buns– i gave the buns deeper perforated impressions by pricking it gently with a toothpick after marking it with a serrated knife
– i coloured a small pinch of the dough with extra dark cocoa powder and cut out different shapes for the pumpkins’ expressions
– cloves have been used for pumpkin stem
